About the Department
The Planning, Research and Statistics Department is the think tank of the Ministry that coordinates short, medium and long-term plans of the Sector. It is also responsible for the coordination, formulation and implementation of policies and programmes; collection, collation, analysis and dissemination of information.

PRS SCHEDULE OF DUTY
1.    Coordination, Implementation, Review and Interpretation of Policies in line with    the Ministry’s Mandates.
2.    Coordinating the matters relating to the National Economic Council, Federal Executive Council and National Council of State;
3.    General Coordination of activities of other Departments.
4.    Coordination of Bilateral and Multilateral relationships with countries and organizations in the mining and metal sector.
5.    Coordination of Ministerial Platform.
6.    Coordination of the implementation of the Roadmap for the growth and Development of the Mining Industry via MIST.
7.    Organization of National Council on Mining and Mineral Resources Development (NCMMRD).
8.    Conducting stakeholders’ engagements in validating research reports/findings 
9.    Collection, Collation, Analysis and Dissemination of Sector Base Statistical information
10.    Conducting research studies into identified and approved projects in the minerals and metals sector.
11.    Production MMSD Annual Report which captures most outstanding activities that had taken place in the sector in the last one year. 
12.    Collaborate on research development with Tertiary Institutions and serves as secretariat to the allied Committees.
13.    Monitoring and Evaluation of Capital Projects/Programmes of the Ministry and its Agencies.
14.    Coordinating the activities of the ministry with Ministry of Budget and National Planning
15.    Provision and Maintenance of the Ministry’s ICT Infrastructure.
16.    Provision of Library Services.
17.    Organization of Ministerial Retreat.
18.    Secretariat of Top management Meeting

The Department is structured into Four (4) main divisions and a unit viz:

• Planning and Policy Division,
• Research and Statistics Division
• Monitoring and Evaluation Division
• ICT Division and
• Library Unit

Schedule of Duty for Planning Division

• Provision of a General Plan of the Ministry in line with existing National plans
• General interpretation of the National Policies in line with the MDA’s Sectorial Mandate.
• Formulation, Implementation, Analysis and Review of Policies in line with the Sector.
• Designing Strategic and Result Base Management Tool for the Sector with other Divisions.
• General Coordination of the activities of other Departments with respect to specific and cross cutting matters in line with Roadmap.
• Coordination and Secretariat of the Mining Implementation and Strategy Team (MIST)
• Coordination of the activities of Bi National Commissions, Bi lateral, Multi-lateral and others like the African Mining Vision (AMV), Nigerian Mining Vision (NMV), OSIWA Foundation, World Bank, African Development Bank, UNESCO, CBN, etc
• Coordinating and Driving the implementation of the Mines and Mineral Sector Development Roadmap.
• Coordinating and processing of all Federal Executive Council Memoranda of the Ministry.
• Coordinating the activities of the ministry with Ministry of Budget and National Planning.
• Coordination of the administration of the Department
• Coordinating and Secretariat of National Council on Mines and Steel Development (NCMSD)
• Preparation of Ministry’s Performance Report in Conjunction with other divisions.
• Coordinating the activities of the National Economic Council in matters relating to the Ministry.
• Coordinating and supervision all board membership and representation of MMSD in MDAs
• Any other matter that may be assigned by the Director, PRS

Schedule of Duty for Research and Statistics

• Collection, Collation, Analysis and Dissemination of Sector base Statistical information
• Production of Annual Progress Report of the activities of the Ministry and Digest of Statistics.
• Production of Mines and Steel Journal; an annual magazine which captures most outstanding activities that had taken place in the sector.
• Management of the Ministry’s Data Bank/Computer and Library Services.
• Liaise with Government Agencies and other bodies outside the Ministry on related matter with the Ministry’s mandate.
• Serve as Secretariat to the Steering Committee on Research Collaboration with Nigeria Tertiary Institutions.
• Disseminate information and other correspondence with the Ministry/Agencies.
• Coordinate ICT Infrastructures upgrade and Web portal development/Database Management System.
• Any other duties as may be periodically assigned to the division.

Schedule of Duty for ICT unit

• Handles the Ministry’s ICT infrastructures
• Renders ICT services across Department, Divisions and Units.
• Providing available and relevant IT related technical services, Maintenance and repairs of IT hardware units
• Carry out Network Administration
• Liaise with relevant Federal Government Representatives on IT Compliance (Galaxy Backbone Plc., NITDA, etc.) to adequately put the Ministry in line with Federal Government’s directives on IT Compliance
• Software updates and upgrades (Operating Systems, Application Software, Security Software, Firewalls etc.) for effective and efficient performances.
• Initiates Internal ICT policies
• Carries out the job of Data Base Administration 
• Coordinates ICT Infrastructure upgrade and Web Portal Development.

Schedule of Duty for M&E

• Preparation of Monitoring and Evaluation programmes/activities on all the Ministry’s capital project, expenditure and progress towards achieving the project output.
• Preparation of quarterly and half yearly reports on monitoring and evaluation activities.
• Production of M&E Annual Report.
• Coordinating all the activities with the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, including liaison.
• Coordinate the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan programmes/activities.
• Coordination of quarterly meeting with the Departmental Monitoring Units of the Ministry.
• Sensitization programmes for M&E officers and Departmental M&E desk officers.
• Divisional budget preparation and completion of templates.
• Stakeholders forum (3 days’ workshop) for the review of M&E yearly activities.
• Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Director.
